Facial Steamers – What We Recommend

Facial Steamers

What is a facial steamer?

A Facial Steamers is a device that helps create and hold warm steam over the
face. A facial steamer heats the water reservoir until it creates steam. It’s
often used during facial treatments by professionals, and it has been proven t
improve skin health and increase the effectiveness of skincare products during
and after-use.

How do in-office versions differ from at-home versions?

In-office facial steamers are used mainly to prep the skin, often for facial
extractions. It’s a natural way to remove dead skin cells. The steaming action on
your face heats up your skin and loosens the dead skin cells. The warm steam
softens the skin and loosens clogged pores of debris, sebum, or product
build-up. Facial Steamers can also be used to enhance the experience of Spa
Guests, as the warm steam can be relaxing and invigorating.

Are at-home versions recommended? Why or why not?

At-home versions are recommended but should be used with caution. Prior to
investing in a home version, the buyer should educate themselves on their skin
type and analyze if there is any skin condition present. Individuals with Rosacea,
Eczema and Severe Acne should avoid steamers. The heat from the steamer dilates
blood vessels, aggravating any condition and causing an increase in redness
and inflammation. Individuals with normal to oily skin types are the ideal
candidates for this device.

How do you use an at-home facial steamer? And how often is it safe to do so?

To use an at-home facial steamer, first, perform the process after a cleanse and a light exfoliation on your face. It’s best to be sitting down and also be sure to follow each steamer’s specific instructions in regards to the recommended distance the steamer should be from your face when applying the steam. This will help prevent any burns and conditions that could come from extremely hot steam too close to the face. Follow up with a serum and moisturizer to hydrate and calm the skin.

Do you have any personal favorites?

My personal favorite is the Dr. Dennis Gross Pro Facial Steamer. This steamer produces nice
even steam throughout the face. The Conair True Glow Moisturizing Mist Facial Sauna System
is another good pick, as it’s one of the more affordable and classic facials steamers on the
market! Both can be found at popular beauty retailers and online.
